Smashing Pumpkins back on Tour.

Billy Corgan

Alternative rock band, Smashing Pumpkins are appearing at The Crest Theater on September 6, 2010.  The Grammy Award winning band broke onto the music scene back in 1993, with Siamese Dream, the band’s second album.  Since then, they have gone through many changes, in line-up, but their music has stayed the same.  Their musical influences came from bands such as The Cure, Depeche Mode and Joy Division.  You can definitely hear that in their music.  In recent years the band has not been very public and front man Billy Corgan attributes that to the band getting back together, making new music and getting back to touring.  Some of the original members of The Pumpkins have gone their separate ways, but the core remains the same, Corgan.

The Crest Theater is about 5 minutes away from Natomas Ridge.

The Musical

One of the most successful Broadway musicals of all time, is heading our way.  Tony Award winning Rent, will be at the 24th Street Theater, September 3, 2010.  If you’re not familiar with this show, it tells the story of a group of young artists and musicians living in New York, all struggling to survive in the big city.  Based on Giacomo Puccini’s opera La Boheme, Rent has been seen all over the globe to sold out performances.  I was lucky enough to see it in New York and was blown away by it’s energy and how the audience reacted to the show.  It’s tugs at your heart and yes there are some moments that make you reach for your tissues.  Overall, I loved the show and would recommend if you haven’t seen it already, then you cannot miss it.

24th Street Theater is only a short drive from Natomas Ridge, about 15 minutes.

Yoga for you’re mind and body

Yoga for the mind and body

I have only tried Yoga, maybe five times in my life!  I have friends who are addicted to Yoga, they go at least 2-3 times a week and they tell me that they greatly benefit from what Yoga has to offer.  So, I decided before I write off this very popular form of exercise, I would do some research of my own and find out what makes it so popular!

1. Meditation, I found is good for the mind.  It puts you into a state of relaxation and deeper thinking.

2. I also discovered that there are different types of Yoga.  At my last count, I had read about 15!

3. Yoga can improve your overall health and mental well-being.  It’s good for flexibility, strenght and muscle tone.

4. There are different poses, each one done with precision and with a rest between each one.

5.  And there are two categories of Yoga. Flow and Non-Flow.  Flow raises your heart-rate and non-flow does not.  I think I prefer the non-flow!

When choosing where to go to a Yoga class, usually its word of mouth from a friend. Or, you might want to give Yoga/Pilates a try.  It’s at the Tango by the River, which is about 10 minutes from Natomas Ridge.

I may give Yoga another go.  What’t the worst that could happen? I could get healthy!  Hmm, sounds good to me!

Ringling Brother's Circus

Who doesn’t love the circus?  It was something that as a child I enjoyed going to.  The Ringling Brother’s circus is celebrating it’s 200 year anniversary and is touring the country with it’s spectacular troup of animals, clowns and big cats.  You can be a part of this momentous anniversary, as The Ringling Brother’s is coming to the Arco Arena, September 9-12,2010.

A good weekend for movies

Posted on August 12, 2010 · Leave a Comment

This weekend two movies are opening at theaters.  Eat, Pray, Love, by award winning author, Elizabeth Gilbert and starring Academy Award Winning actress, Julia Roberts, as a woman (Liz) who is trying to put the pieces of her life back together after a divorce and a string of bad relationships.  Her journey of self discovery takes her across the globe to Italy, Bali and India.  Along the way she meets people for all walks of life and culture.  The second movie is definitley an action film.  The Expendables, starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham and Bruce Willis, is a story about a band of mercenaries who come together to overthrow an evil dictator.  It’s been a while since Stallone has been on the big screen, not since the last Rambo movie.

Gordon Ramsay

Gordon Ramsay

For those of us who are avid watchers of Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen, tonight we will find out who the winner will be.  Last week we saw two leave the Kitchen, leaving Jay Santos and Holli Ugalde to battle it out tonight for the big prize.  Which is the position of Head Chef at London’s prestigious Savoy Grill.  I am a huge fan of Gordon Ramsay, but even I have to admit, if he screamed at me the way he has, to this season’s contestants, I don’t mind admitting that I would have ended up in a puddle of my tears.

Hell’s Kitchen season finale will air tonight on Fox @ 8pm.

Has anyone ever done an underground tour?  I have and it’s one of the most interesting things to do around town.  Underground Tours of Old Sacramento will take you around the historic part of the city, where you will explore hidden walkways, disappearing windows and you will tour under the sites of some of Old Sacramento’s historic buildings.  This is a great way to get to understand the history of where you live and to explore the culture of how it used to be.  If you are interested in going on this tour, tickets are now available for tours that start Thursdays and run through to Sunday each week.
